LabCorp says it’s ahead of schedule in ramping up its capacity to conduct COVID-19 tests, and is now able to perform more than 20,000 of the tests per day.

The Burlington-based company says it has doubled its COVID-19 testing capacity in one week at its labs in North Carolina, Arizona and New Jersey.

The company notes this is “a significant increase in capacity since the company released its COVID-19 test two weeks ago,” and it expects capacity to continue to increase. by adding staff, equipment and more high-throughput testing capabilities.

LabCorp says it is intently focused on making COVID-19 laboratory testing available to patients who are symptomatic and should be tested.

LabCorp does not collect specimens for the test. Patients for whom testing has been ordered should not be sent to LabCorp locations to have a specimen collected. Instead, an appropriate specimen must be collected at the healthcare facility where the patient is seen and where the test must be ordered. The specimens are then sent to the company using standard procedures. The company says test results will be available three to four days after the specimen is sent.
