Overview

Join the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC) on Wednesday, September 18 for an introduction to STEP 12.

The State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) is designed to help small businesses in North Carolina fund costs associated with international trade. Qualifying exporters are eligible for up to $12,000 in reimbursements for international business-building activities.

The US Small Business Administration awarded EDPNC with the next round of STEP funding. STEP 12 will run from September 30, 2024, through September 29, 2025.

Plant DNA pioneer Mary-Dell Chilton dies at 87

Mary-Dell Chilton, Ph.D., an American pioneer in plant sciences known as the “Queen of the Agrobacterium,” died on June 24, 2026, in Carrboro, N.C. She was 87 years old.

Chilton’s research in the 1970s and 1980s continues to influence plant biotechnology through her groundbreaking discoveries of the interaction between plants and bacteria.
