Susie leads the Life Science Intelligence teams in their efforts to provide top-notch information tools, technologies and infrastructure for the Center and its work to support the life sciences industry. In a nutshell, Susie strives to make NCBiotech work smarter.
By providing unique tools and services to the life sciences entrepreneurial community, Susie and her team bring a competitive edge to the cluster. Susie has spearheaded efforts to grow the startup consortium, improve the company directory and develop a support system for local information managers. Susie is a proactive problem-solver, always asking, “How can we do this better?”
Throughout her career Susie has managed IT teams, merging the technical and theoretical best practices for information and knowledge management. Before coming to the Center in 2006, Susie served as associate professor/systems development librarian at Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. Prior to that, while at the Wake Area Health Education Center at WakeMed, Susie’s IT group provided support for 9 clinical practices as well as the library, Andrews Conference Center and continuing education. From 1982 to 1998, Susie was a tenured associate professor at the East Carolina University Health Sciences Library where she implemented the first local area network in the library and the first product available on the medical school’s network, MEDLINE.
Susie has a Master’s of Science degree in Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master's degree in environmental health from ECU.
