About
Tracey du Laney, Ph.D., is the Vice President, Science and Technology Development at NCBiotech. As Vice President, she is responsible for managing and administering NCBiotech’s research grant funding programs, which are designed to advance promising scientific discoveries and technologies developed in North Carolina colleges, universities, and non-profit institutions toward commercialization. Within NCBiotech, Tracey collaborates closely with the Economic Development and Emerging Company Development Units to advance the life sciences ecosystem and foster economic growth in North Carolina.
Tracey holds a B.S.E. in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University, an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and a Ph.D. in Biochemical Engineering from Duke University. After Duke, she was a postdoctoral fellow in cardiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She returned to Duke University following her first postdoctoral fellowship as a postdoctoral fellow and assistant research professor in the laboratory of Dr. Laura Niklason in the Department of Anesthesiology, where she worked on technology that ultimately became the scientific foundation for Humacyte. Humacyte is a Duke spin-out company based in Research Triangle Park, N.C., commercializing bioengineered human tissues and organs.
After working in the Niklason lab, Tracey was recruited to become a principal scientist at Artecel Sciences, a company focused on developing products from adult adipose-derived stem cells for regenerative medicine applications. When Artcel closed, Tracey joined BioAbility, a specialty consulting firm specializing in strategic business planning, start-up formation and advising, and venture capital due diligence for the life sciences industry in North Carolina and the United States.
Tracey continued as a life science consultant when she became a partner and co-founder of an independent life sciences consulting firm, Bioscience Information Partners, specializing in life sciences start-up company formation, strategic planning, entrepreneurship, investor due diligence, business grant writing, business plan writing and review, and life sciences markets and competitor analysis.
In 2016, Tracey became the Director of Science and Technology Development at NCBiotech. In 2019, Dr. du Laney was named an AAAS Alan I. Leshner Leadership Institute Public Engagement Fellow, with a focus on human augmentation. In 2024, she was accepted into Leadership North Carolina Class 32.
Outside of work, Tracey enjoys spending time with her family and her numerous pets. She and her family foster dogs for Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue. Tracey also volunteers for the Triangle Curling Club during Junior Curling events and classes.
