North Carolina’s reputation as the global epicenter for contract research organizations (CROs) has been boosted with the Wilmington opening of an office by German CRO proinnovera GmbH.

Headquartered in Münster, Germany, proinnovera named Sonja VanWye, RN, MSN,  as vice president of U.S. clinical operations. VanWye will be responsible for general management, team development, vendor selection and expanding the CRO’s U.S. footprint.

VanWye was director of clinical operations and head of project management for Morrisville-based Novella Clinical, a Quintiles CRO providing services to oncology, dermatology and medical device and diagnostics companies.

The proinnovera U.S. subsidiary, opened June 1, offers full-service clinical trial solutions for studies with dermatology, immunology, inflammatory skin diseases, skin cancer and pre-cancerous indications, burns, wounds, and aesthetics.

proinnovera said in a news release that it established the U.S. operations in response to feedback from the company’s clients, “many of whom desire a reliable, specialized global dermatology CRO with a US footprint. The Company looks forward to expanding proinnovera’s high-quality services, and providing the pharmaceutical industry with exceptional performance and consistency in international clinical trials services.”

Marion Breuer, Ph.D., co-CEO with owner Burkhard Breuer, Ph.D., put it this way: “We’re seeing the need for global reach of dermatology studies ever increasing. We want to meet this need by offering our clients a global presence with deep and responsive local expertise.”
