Although the hospital Emergency Department (ED) may not come to mind as a venue for end-of-life care, dying patients do frequently present to EDs in the final hours or days of life.

In this presentation, Dr. Arthur R. Derse will examine the role of ethics and law in ED care at the end of life. He will describe the consensus about end-of-life care in the ED, point out pitfalls in that consensus, and analyze current and emerging areas of controversy.

Duke Univerity's Precision Medicine Program aims to bring precision medicine technologies from the basic science portfolio to clinical settings through both research and clinical programs. These technologies are broad-based and include specific tools, including wearables, a family history risk assessment platform, and predictive models that incorporate multiple modalities using state-of-the-art scientific principles.
