SmaBio Labs big move creates opportunities for pharma partners, employees

Contract development and manufacturing organization SmaBio Labs recently celebrated the official opening of its new home in RTP. The 9,000-square-foot facility expands the company’s ability to support every stage of drug development -- from discovery to commercialization. It was also designed to streamline workflows by enhancing scalability and operational efficiency.

“This new facility is a transformative milestone for us,” said SmaBio Labs CEO and Co-Founder Lakshmi Ethirajan. “It amplifies our ability to support our partners by turning complex molecules into market-ready solutions. Our expanded capabilities enable us to meet the escalating demands in drug discovery, formulation development, and analytical services with unprecedented efficiency.”

Efficiencies were a driving factor in developing the company’s new headquarters.

"Beyond the increase in size, this transition was also about operational efficiency,” Ethirajan added. “We sought to enhance our workflow, optimize processes, and create a collaborative environment for our team. Our vision for the move was comprehensive, designed to benefit both our partners and our team."

In drug discovery, the company can now offer hit identification, lead optimization, candidate selection, and drug substance synthesis.

While the new facility expands the company’s capabilities and efficiencies, it also creates what Ethirajan calls “a modern, inspiring workspace that fosters creativity and collaboration.”

The company was launched in Apex, N.C., in June 2023.
