Market Research 101
Karin Shank, Senior Research Analyst at NCBiotech

Knowing your market is essential for advancing your technology and growing your business. In this session, we’ll look at some free and cheap resources for market research information. Using a case study format, we’ll discuss some basic approaches to help you create a more comprehensive market landscape.

Literature Landscape
Susan Craft, Senior Research Analyst at NCBiotech

Whether you’re at a startup or a large company, finding the best way to access full text articles can be overwhelming. This session gives an overview of different platforms and products meant to deliver full text access at different levels. We will discuss different options for purchasing full text content through publishers, aggregators and document delivery platforms, as well as reference management tools that will help you keep the content you’ve purchased organized. No matter how large or small your company is, you will leave this session with an understanding of the literature landscape and pathways to make finding, accessing and organizing full-text articles easier.

Innovation Mapping in Biomarkers:
Using AI and NLP to Understand the Pace and Direction of Evolution

Keith Luke Business Development Director, Quid

Using the example of biomarkers and oncology, this multi-source analysis will address key pain points surrounding disparate data sources and text volumes that go beyond a human user's ability to manually process them alone.

In this session, historical, current and future innovation trends within biomarkers and oncology will be mapped by understanding the news coverage, company activity, patent data and academic research surrounding the pace of change in biomarkers for both therapeutic and diagnostic applications.

Search Better with Google (and More)
Allison Cruise, Life Science Intelligence at NCBiotech Intern

Learn how to fine tune your web searches in Google and beyond with Boolean operators, search syntax and other tools. You will learn how to find relevant articles using Google Scholar and view archived websites with these hints and tips.

11:05

Copyright Compliance for Commercial Use:
Identify, Educate, and License

Meghan Carey and Christina Sontag, Springer Nature

In order to understand the complex landscape of copyright compliance in the landscape of corporate/commercial use subscriptions, we must first understand how researchers can gain access to published content. This session will walk through how researchers are accessing content and why these access options can sometimes be problematic. The end goal is to identify risk mitigation, cost mitigation, productivity optimization, and understand why copyright compliance is important for customers and prospects.

Beyond Literature:
Scientists' Other Information Needs

Susan Craft, Senior Research Analyst at NCBiotech

What happens when the information you need can’t be captured with a traditional literature search? This session will address research questions that are multi-faceted or require deliverables like spreadsheet analyses, data visualization or white papers. You’ll see research examples that started as broad, unstructured requests and learn how to create a framework leading to a targeted and illuminative product.
