North Carolina continues to rack up business accolades in 2023: The state was recognized recently by Merchant Maverick as among the top10 states in the country for women-led startups. The Tar Heel State ranked 9th, up from 17th in 2022.

“North Carolina has established a toehold on the Top 10 list this year, shooting up eight places,” the report noted. “While the Tar Heel state doesn't dominate any one metric, it makes a respectable showing in many.”

“Our state has a thriving community of startups and early growth companies, many of them in the life sciences” said Vivian Doelling, Ph.D., vice president of emerging company development at the North Carolina Biotechnology Center. “We are fortunate to have a growing number of women entrepreneurs who are turning innovations into thriving business concerns.

“I am proud to have the state recognized for this strong, vibrant and successful community,” she added.

NCBiotech published this story two years ago about women leading life sciences companies across North Carolina, and numerous startups have since established footholds in the state.
