He plays leading role in NC's medicine boom

North Carolina, once known for textile and furniture manufacturing, is now one of the country's most prominent states in medicine production.

Over the past few years, North Carolina has secured major investments from some of the world's largest pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, with both Novo Nordisk (NYSE: NVO) and Eli Lilly and Co. (NYSE: LLY) pouring billions into their operations in the state. More recently, Genentech, a subsidiary of Swiss multinational health care company Roche Holding AG, said its plans to invest $700 million in a new manufacturing facility in Holly Springs.

The North Carolina Biotechnology Center, led by CEO Doug Edgeton, has been involved in these projects. The organization supports the life sciences industry through research grants and loans to smaller emerging companies, while also playing an active role in attracting new investments to North Carolina.
