Project Description: The PIs will survey wild American ginseng populations to identify genetic diversity and the suite of medicinal compounds in roots and shoots to identify genetic "fingerprints" (specific DNA sequences) for different chemotypes (plants unique in their compound composition). These plants can then be used to develop cultivars to enhance wild-simulated ginseng production in western North Carolina.
