N.C. has seen significant growth in the number of students earning bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in agriculture and natural resources.  In fact, over the past five years, there’s been a 54 percent growth in these targeted degrees. This is nearly three times the growth of overall degrees in the state.

Nova Synthetix, a young Chapel Hill agricultural biotechnology company, has won an ag biotech pitch contest with non-toxic castor plants that could bring a global breakthrough in reduced human suffering and expanded economic opportunity.

Not only is Novartis planning to expand its $1 billion Holly Springs biomanufacturing campus with a $47 million addition starting next month, but the Swiss global pharmaceutical giant is also about to open a new R&D operation in Research Triangle Park.

Chapel Hill-based Heat Biologics, recruited to North Carolina by the Biotechnology Center and bootstrapped by NCBiotech loan, spent its first day as a publicly traded company bouncing up, down and then closing 4.3 percent below its $10 opening price.
