DeSimone Wins MIT Prize

Joseph DeSimone, a professor with appointments at UNC-Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University, and founder of Liquidia Technologies in Research Triangle Park, won this year's $500,000 Lemelson-MIT Prize for his inventions in nanomedicine, medical devices and green manufacturing, in addition to his lab-to-market entrepreneurship and commitment to mentorship.

The Lemelson-MIT Prize honors outstanding mid-career inventors who are dedicated to improving our world through technological invention and innovation. DeSimone will accept the award and present his accomplishments today at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

DeSimone said he plans to use the prize money to support additional scientific ventures.
