Everyone knows the power of sharing ideas, collaboration and networking.

Well, it’s happening in the North Carolina life science community throughout the year at events across our state. And if you’ve attended one of these events, you might have seen the North Carolina Biotechnology Center logo on display.

Here at NCBiotech, we have two popular grant programs that help support these “meetings of the minds.” The Biotechnology Event Sponsorships (BES) support local or statewide events and the Biotechnology Meeting Grants (BMG) help fund national or international meetings being held in North Carolina.

I have the pleasure of managing the BES and BMG grant programs. Over the course of this past year, I have been impressed by the level of creativity and hard work put forth to conduct some really exciting conferences, workshops and symposia.  The ideas and connections they generate are vital to the citizens, students, researchers and businesses of North Carolina.

Here’s a list of the 26 BES and BMG awards made this year. As you can see, they take place in every region of the state.  Topics this year have been broad -- from the cutting-edge areas of nanoscience and regenerative medicine to practical applications of drug delivery and research compliance. STEM education events have been well represented, showing the continued support of NCBiotech for our educators and students at all levels. And events focused on getting the public involved with science have also been supported.

The BES and BMG programs have four deadlines per year, based on the date of the event. The next deadline will be at noon on June 10, 2015 for events to be held during July through September. If you are interested in applying for a grant to support your event, check out the program information online, and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
