Rick Lawless joined NCBiotech in December 2021 as director of workforce development. He leads projects to grow, develop, and retain the life sciences workforce in North Carolina.
Before joining NCBiotech, Rick spent 15 years developing talent at KBI Biopharma, Novartis Gene Therapies, and NC State University’s Biomanufacturing Training & Education Center (BTEC), which he helped start-up in 2007. Before entering the education and training space, Rick managed clinical and commercial manufacturing operations for 21 years at companies including Eastman Kodak (industrial fermentation products), Johnson & Johnson (clinical diagnostics), and Wyeth/Pfizer (vaccines).
Rick earned bachelor’s degrees in chemical engineering and microbiology from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) and a master’s degree in business administration from the State University of New York (Buffalo).
