Project Description: During certain types of gynecologic surgery, fluid is injected into the uterus to allow for visualization of the interior surfaces. This fluid can pose a health risk to the patient if too much is injected and leaks into the abdominal cavity or enters the patient's bloodstream. The development of a new type of surgical drape will allow surgeons to careful monitor and collect any injected fluid that leaks out of the patient onto the surgical table. By knowing the precise amount of fluid injected and fluid leakage out of the patient, surgeons will be better able to measure the fluid volume that is retained in the patient, thereby increasing patient safety.
