Project Description: New regulations eliminating the use of antibiotic growth promoters in animal feed challenge pig producers to devise new methods to establish and maintain healthy guts in young pigs. Feeding animals probiotics helps gut microbial balance and the addition of enzymes to pig feed can provide prebiotics that help the beneficial bacteria in the probiotics to survive and flourish. A combination of the feed enzyme, xylanase, along with probiotics added to pig feed could produce synergetic effects benefiting young pigs.
