Summer Workshops: Ag Biotech Industry in the Classroom

Since 2012 more than 70 North Carolina educators have participated in this professional development workshop offered by the AgBiotech Initiative via the North Carolina Biotechnology Center. This summer's ag biotech workshops will provide hands-on activities, lectures and discussions around biotechnology's role in agriculture to NC science and/or CTE agriculture educators at the middle and high school levels. 


Participants will get to:

  • Acquire lesson plans and curriculum materials for each topic linked to the standard courses of study
  • Tour one of the multinational ag biotech companies in the Research Triangle Park area
  • Network with industry representatives
  • Connect with farmers and growers during a panel discussion
  • Receive a copy of Pamela Roland's book "Tomorrow's Table"

Upon completion of the full workshop, participants will receive:

  • Continuing education units
  • $200 gift certificate for lab supplies from Carolina Biological Supply Co.
  • A travel stipend based on distance:
    • < 30 miles each way - you will receive $100 for your travel
    • > 30 miles each way - you can have hotel accommodations arranged for you OR receive $250 for your travel
