Rx for Science: The Science of Energy Balance - Calorie Intake
Rx for Science Literacy is partnering with Duke University to present a one-day, in-person workshop at Duke.
This workshop will feature the NIH Science of Energy Balance: Calorie Intake and Physical Activity curriculum, which is designed for middle school use. This NIH curriculum supplement introduces students to key concepts of energy balance and provides a context within which nutrition concepts can be better understood.
The curriculum also allows attendees to develop the understanding that achieving energy balance is a long-term goal. Duke scientists will discuss research on obesity, Type 2 diabetes, and fatty liver disease to update attendees on health conditions that relate to weight management.
Attend this event to receive:
- 1 unit of certification renewal credit for North Carolina-certified educators (4 hours of additional work required)
- Free supplemental curriculum and other bioscience education materials to use in the classroom
- Free lunch
- Substitute teacher support (up to $80)
