Program Overview
First proposed some four decades ago to help clinicians address
significant and difficult moral issues, ethics committees are now present
in most US hospitals and many other health care facilities. Health care
professionals, however, are often unfamiliar with the work of their
institution’s ethics committee. In this conference, leaders of the Clinical
Ethics Committee of the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center will describe
the three major functions of health care ethics committees: (1) clinical
ethics consultation, (2) ethics policy development and review, and (3)
ethics education. The presenters will offer examples of each of these
functions as they are undertaken by the WFBMC Clinical Ethics Committee.
Who Should Participate
