Access ScienceDirect Journals

Consortium Terms | Cell Press Journals | Deadlines

The North Carolina Biotechnology Center's Library and Information Services unit works to provide the broadest level of access to information tools for North Carolina's biosciences community.

To meet this goal, the Library coordinates a consortium to provide desktop access to Elsevier B.V.'s Corporate Edition of ScienceDirect® full-text scientific journals.

This unlimited-use subscription at the broadest level of access comes at the remarkably advantageous price of $1,000 a year per individual, with a minimum of three subscribers per company. We are pleased to offer this options, as the usual price is $50,000 per company for a minimum of 50 users. The consortium allows us to share a minimum subscription across several companies.

For the Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2008 licensing opportunity, the minimum annual cost per company is $3,000 with the minimum of three user licenses.

The Consortium Terms

  • Each company will join the consortium by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Biotechnology Center, due to the Consortium Coordinator by Nov. 2, 2007. Please contact the Consortium Coordinator for a copy of the Memorandum.
  • All consortium members will then receive a licensing agreement and an invoice from Elsevier directly. This ensures that Elsevier B.V.’s license is acknowledged by a representative from each company and that all fees are paid directly to Elsevier B.V. Consortium members will ensure that the licensing agreement with Elsevier B.V. is signed without changing the terms of the license that are already agreed to as a common condition of consortium members .
  • Unlimited access will be through each company’s IP address. Online training sessions and usage analysis reports will also be available.
  • The Biotechnology Center Consortium Coordinator will maintain the membership list of companies, a contact person and the number of users licensed for each company.
  • Consortium members must return the signed licensing agreement to Elsevier B.V. by the Nov. 30, 2007, deadline to receive an invoice and qualify to enroll for the Jan. 1, 2008, start date.
  • Consortium members will then be invoiced and pay Elsevier B.V. promptly by Dec. 31, 2007.
  • The consortium cannot enroll companies that currently subscribe to ScienceDirect®.
