The North Carolina Biotechnology Center offers opportunities for intellectual exchange and networking to foster a dynamic research and information-sharing environment for industry and academic partnerships, and professional networking opportunities in the state of North Carolina.
Intellectual Exchange Groups (IEG's) are initiated by interested individuals or groups within the life science communities, and participants might be drawn from universities, the business community, or other constituencies.
Funding is available from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center for reimbursement of meeting expenses. The level of funding varies with the needs of the group, and groups are expected to seek other sources of support to add to Biotechnology Center funds. Intellectual Exchange Groups meet at least four times a year. Therefore, the IEG program is not designed to sponsor one-time events.
Potential IEG topics are bound and varied. The focus of Intellectual Exchange Groups can be related to research, education, or economic development issues in biotechnology or the life sciences. While meetings often include refreshments and socializing opportunities, IEG's are expected to be content-rich activities and are not gatherings held solely for networking or for presentations by service providers.
