Step 1: Read the Mini-Grant Guidelines and Instructions.
Step 2: Take the Eligibility Quiz
Complete the Eligibility Quiz to determine funding eligibility from the Biotechnology Center.
If you fail the Eligibility Quiz, and you think it was in error, contact: Ginny DeLuca, Core Programs Director, at 919-549-8842.
- If you pass the Eligibility Quiz, the Application Form will open. Stop and save the incomplete application form now. The application form can be accessed and completed at a later time (see Step 6). The completed application form should be submitted after you have developed the required documents.
- If you change your mind and later decide not to submit an application, you can delete the saved application form.
Create your User Account
If this is the first time you have submitted a Biotechnology Center electronic application, you will be asked to create a User Account. The account allows you to finish applications at a later time and to track submitted applications. Access your user account on our log-in page.
Step 3: Prepare the Proposal
Prepare the proposal as directed in the Mini-Grant Guidelines and Instructions. Convert it to a PDF document. Do not print and scan the proposal to create a PDF--it will be larger than normal.

Step 5: Gather Supporting Documentation
- Letter of Approval from Authorized Institutional Official
Attach a signed letter of approval from the appropriate official at your institution. Download the form letter provided. Edit the form letter, print and acquire the necessary signature(s). This letter must be printed on the institution's official letterhead. - Letters of Support
Supply letters of support from other teaching personnel or collaborators verifying the nature of their contribution to the project. Use a document scanner to scan all letters into a single PDF file to be attached to the final application form.

Step 6: Complete the Online Application Form
Return to your unfinished application form. Complete the pages. You can stop and save at any time and return to finish later.
Step 7: Attach the Required Documents
The proposal, budget sheet and supporting documentation should be attached as three separate files:
- Proposal (PDF)
- Supporting documentation (PDF)
- Budget (Excel)
Step 8: Review and Submit Application
Review and Submit your application prior to the grant program deadline.
Submission of your grant application indicates:
- You have read and understand the information and directions in this Application Package and agree to be bound by the conditions stated herein;
- You release the North Carolina Biotechnology Center from any claim for damages caused by:
- Disclosures required under the provisions of any North Carolina or United States law, statute or regulation;
- Disclosures made in connection with the North Carolina Biotechnology Centers funding review and approval process;
- Disclosures required by rule or order of any court of competent jurisdiction, or;
- Any other non-negligent, inadvertent, unintentional, unknowing or immaterial disclosure.
- All activities conducted during the course offerings are performed in accordance with established university policies and procedures, including but not limited to policies and procedures applicable to handling of hazardous agents and materials.
You will receive a confirmation e-mail notifying you the Biotechnology Center received your application.
