Education Mini-Grants

The grant assists the development and implementation of activities, programs and courses for biotechnology education and training at the K-12 level.

One submission date yearly.

Proposals received by fax, e-mail or paper will not be accepted.

Mini-Grant Application Instructions

Review Process

The Biotechnology Center's Education and Training Program staff will conduct a preliminary review to determine if the proposal:

  • Directly relates to biotechnology education and training;
  • Is consistent with the guidelines described in this announcement;
  • Contains all of the required information described herein.

The Biotechnology Center's Education and Training Program staff review proposals and make recommendations to the Senior Vice President for Science and Business Development, who makes the final award decisions in consultation with the Biotechnology Center's President.

Support Guidelines

  • No award will exceed $6,000;
  • Awards are made for 12 months;
  • An institution is unlikely to receive awards for more than one proposal submitted in the same year. A project director is unlikely to receive awards in two successive years;
  • Purchase of computers will generally not be allowed, unless required for a specific scientific application.

The Mini-Grant Program will fund the purchase of biotechnology-related equipment, supplies and educational materials for the purpose of:

  • Expanding or strengthening pre-existing courses or activities;
  • Establishing either new courses or activities;
  • Conducting teacher professional development or educational outreach at the local level.
