Collaborative Funding Grant

The grant financially supports a postdoctoral fellow or technician in a university research laboratory who will perform a project of commercial interest under the guidance of a principal investigator.

The Kenan Institute for Engineering, Technology and Science and the Biotechnology Center jointly sponsor this grant.

The Collaborative Funding Grant aims to:

  • Encourage collaboration between academia and industry.
  • Help to move technology from the lab to commercialization.
  • Leverage Biotechnology Center money with the Kenan Institute.

Eligible Company Partners

CFG eligible company partners must be either:

1) A North Carolina company with:

  • demonstrated IP owned or licensed by the company and
  • a CEO who resides in North Carolina, or documents significant company presence in North Carolina as required by Center Staff

OR

2) A National or Multinational company with significant presence in North Carolina such as a Research or Manufacturing Facility or Regional Headquarters.

Funding and Matching Requirements

The award is $40,000 to $50,000 per year based on the partner company's size. The total funding with match is $80,000 per year for two years.
