External Research Funding

We provide multiple research and education grants, in addition to our Regional Development Grants. Some agencies, like those found below, fund projects or programs specifically related to education or research. We've also included databases that list a broad range of funding opportunities, including:

    Promotes health (broadly defined) through partnerships between communities and higher educational institutions.

  • Howard Hughes
    Medical Institute Enhancing science education for students at all levels.
  • National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance
    Awards grants to its member institutions to support and strengthen invention, innovation, and entrepreneurship education through curricular development and the work of Advanced E-Teams.
  • Office of Environmental Education
    Provides a list of funding opportunities to get your education program or project off the ground. You can subscribe to the Funding Alert ListServ.
  • Public Education Network
    Builds public demand and mobilize resources for quality public education for all children through a national constituency of local education funds and individuals.
  • SchoolGrants
    Lists a variety of opportunities available to public and private nonprofit elementary and secondary schools and districts.
  • TeachersCount Services tailored to the teaching profession and education. You can also subscribe to the Funding Alert ListServ.
  • Teachers Network
    Series of grant opportunities for various topics in education (science, technology, etc.). For more grant opportunities, you can subscribe to the eblast list by contacting Sandy Scragg.

    Search by keyword or granting foundation to find information about specific programs. GrantsNet membership is free and enables you to save searches/grants, similar to COS. You can also subscribe to the Funding News Alert.

    List of grants, foundations, and venture capital funds in NC.
  • Noza
    Locates funders who are giving to organizations similar to yours and can tailor to funding amounts, geographic location, etc. Search by charitable organizations and cause.
