Forsyth Technical Community College [2] invites you to attend the 2017 Sci Tech Lecture Series where their speaker is Laura Deming, director of Longevity Fund [3].

Laura Deming [4] is a scientist and venture capitalist at the young age of 23. The New Zealand native has an interesting background in that she became preoccupied and interested in the genetics of aging at 11. Deming wrote to Cynthia Kenyon, Ph.D. [5], a world-renowned molecular biologist who specializes in the genetics of aging, and asked Kenyon if she could visit her San Francisco lab. During the visit, she asked Kenyon if she could work in the lab and was granted that request and as a result, Deming’s family moved from New Zealand to the United States so that Deming could work at the California lab. It is interesting to note that at age 14, Deming was accepted as a student at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
