Two Join Biotechnology Center's Staff

Two key employees have joined the North Carolina Biotechnology Center staff in Research Triangle Park.

Susan Corbett is the new director of Library and Information Services, and Steven Casey is the new business development director for the Business and Technology Development Program. Both assumed their duties Aug. 1.

Corbett has been the systems development librarian at the Lister Hill Library, University of Alabama at Birmingham, since 2002. Before that she was director of information resources at the Wake Area Health Education Center. She began her career at the Health Sciences Library at East Carolina University and served in a variety of management positions during 16 years there.

She has a master's degree in library science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a master's in environmental health from East Carolina University and bachelor's degrees in political science and Russian studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Casey is responsible for planning, developing, directing and carrying out assessment programs and services for companies requesting Biotechnology Center loan support.

Casey is the founder and former chief operating officer for Expression Analysis, a Durham company that provides gene expression, genotyping and re-sequencing services for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. Before that he was a manager with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at Duke University. Previously he was discharged with honors from the U.S. Air Force after two decades of service.

Casey has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Wayland Baptist University and received an MBA from Elon College in 2001.
