A technology developed by Research Triangle Park-based biotechnology company Attagene has been highlighted in one of the Nature research journals.
The company's president and CEO, Dr. Sergei Makarov, a senior author of the study published in the advance online publication Nature Methods, said Attagene's FACTORIAL technology is useful in drug evaluation and predictive toxicology.
"The human genome has tens of thousands of genes, but only a fraction is expressed in a particular cell type at a given time," explained Makarov. "Understanding how gene expression is regulated is the Grail of the post-genomic era. A major hindrance is the lack of appropriate tools. We have found an entirely different way to characterize the functional status of cellular gene regulatory network."
