Quintiles Splits $32.3M Trial

Research Triangle Park-based Quintiles Transnational has teamed with DynPort Vaccine Company, of Falls Church., Va., on a $32.3 million federal contract to establish and operate a Phase 1 clinical trial unit for infectious disease therapeutics.

The seven-year pact with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, part of the National Institutes of Health, calls for the firms to evaluate the safety in humans for up to four new investigational drugs per year.

"Quintiles is pleased to expand our existing government contracting relationship with DVC," said Oren Cohen, M.D., senior vice president and managing director of Quintiles' Public Health and Government Services business.

Quintiles' portion of the work will take place in the firm's year-old 150-bed Phase 1 clinical research unit in Overland Park, Kan.
