Muscadine Naturals, headquartered in the Forsyth County community of Lewisville, has launched a new product containing Muscadine grape skins and seed powder which the firm says it expects to prove useful against heart disease.
The firm is launching its Muscadine Plus "Heart Healthy Formula" this month to commemorate National Heart Month, said Wake Forest University professor William Wagner, Ph.D., who serves as senior research scientist for Muscadine Naturals and as a fellow of the American Heart Association. He said Muscadine Plus "Heart Healthy Formula" is a dietary supplement containing high concentrations of polyphenols, Coenzyme Q-10 and Vitamin E to address problems of high cholesterol and other risk factors of heart disease.
The product is sold without a prescription in food, drug and specialty food stores.
The use of Muscadine grapes and phytonutrients in Muscadine grapes for cardiovascular problems was first reported at international conferences held in Varanesi, India and Singapore in 2006 and 2007.
