Lantibio Signs Deal on Dry Eye Treatment

Chapel Hill-based Lantibio and Switzerland's TRB Chemedica have signed a licensing agreement with a subsidiary of Swiss-based Alcon for the U.S. development, marketing, and manufacture of a product to treat dry eye syndrome.

The product, in Phase III research by a Lantibio subsidiary, is a TRB formulation containing sodium hyaluronate. Lantibio expects to file an NDA on the therapy in 2008 to hydrate the surface of the eye, preventing dryness and long-term ocular injury.

The agreement calls for Lantibio to complete the development and FDA approval process and Alcon to handle U.S. marketing, sales and manufacturing. Terms of the agreement include up-front and development milestone payments, as well as royalties to be paid to Lantibio and TRB by Alcon on sales of the approved product.
