Hamner Institutes Researcher Wins $1.6M NIH Grant

Dr. Wenhong Cao, assistant investigator in the Division of Translational Biology at The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences, has been awarded $1.6 million from the National Institutes of Health to perform diabetes research over five years.

The grant will allow Cao to study new biochemical pathways of how the body maintains sugar balance and its relationship to weight regulation. This research is part of The Hamner's expanding program in diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

"This grant is a tremendous opportunity to strengthen our research in metabolic and cardiovascular disease," said Dr. William F. Greenlee, president and CEO of The Hamner Institutes. "Diabetes is a major public health issue, and we are excited to see the impact Dr. Cao's work will have on fighting this disease."
