General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products located in Charlotte has received a contract option worth approximately $43 million from the U.S. Army.
The award from the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command Acquisition Center is a modification of a 2004 contract and brings the total value to date to more than $200 million. Under the agreement, General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products, a business unit of General Dynamics, will produce and test Joint Biological Point Detection Systems (JBPDS).
JBPDS, a Joint Services program, is a self-contained instrument that provides automatic detection and identification of airborne biological agents at very low levels. Using laser-induced fluorescence, the system continuously checks for potential biological agents, and when a suspicious sample is found, evaluates it using immuno assays.
General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products provides a broad range of system solutions for military and commercial applications. The company designs, develops and produces high-performance armament systems; defensive armor solutions; aerospace components; mobile shelter systems; and is the leading U.S. producer of biological and chemical detection systems.
