FDA Inspectors to Train Under BTEC Federal Contract

A new contract for the Golden LEAF Biomanufacturing Training and Education Center (BTEC) at North Carolina State University from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration will benefit FDA trainees and North Carolina's biotech industry by smoothing the process of field inspections.

BTEC will design, develop and deliver pharmaceutical and biomanufacturing training for Office of Regulatory Affairs field and operational personnel. The contract will pay BTEC $161,000 in the first year, and includes four additional option years, which would bring the total value of the contract to $455,000.

"Local industry could end up being the biggest winner, since BTEC students and industry employees will be able to learn pharmaceutical and biomanufacturing principles from the same faculty and trainers that deliver training to the FDA investigators," said Rick Lawless, BTEC's associate director of strategic support and project manager for the FDA contract.
