EnSolve Biosystems got its start with a few loans from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center and now it is making biotechnology water treatment systems being used for a natural gas pipeline network in the Gulf of Mexico.
Ensolve, a maritime biotechnology company based in RTP, develops and commercializes maritime products that provide environmental and economic benefits to its customers. In 1995, EnSolve received a $108,700 Economic Development Loan from the Biotechnology Center and in 1999 received a $100,000 Small Business Research Loan and a $10,000 Business Development Loan.
EnSolve's water treatment system, called EnSolve PetroLiminator Oil Water Separator systems use hydrocarbon-consuming microorganisms to cleanse hydrocarbons and other wastes from the condensate water produced by onboard air compressors. The water, once treated, meets international regulatory requirements of less than five parts per million for discharge into the sea.
