A Duke University-led coalition co-founded by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to improve the quality and efficiency of clinical trials has named a 12-member executive board to oversee its activities.
The public-private partnership, called the Clinical Trials Transformation Initiative (CTTI), was formed in the wake of growing frustration among patients, consumers, academia and industry over the difficulty of conducting high-quality clinical trials as quickly as possible.
Judith Kramer, M.D., associate professor of medicine at Duke, will serve as the executive director of CTTI. Robert Califf, M.D., vice chancellor for clinical research at Duke, co-chairs the executive board with Rachel Behrman, M.D., director of the Office of Critical Path Programs in the Office of the Commissioner at FDA.
The executive board comprises leading figures in government, academia, industry (pharmaceutical, biotechnology, device and contract research) and patient advocacy.
