Cempra Pharmaceuticals, a Morrisville-based developer of anti-infectives, has reportedly raised $10 million in new Series B funding to bolster its previous $24 million from venture investors.
Cempra, established two years ago, is led by Prabhavathi Fernandes, who is president and chief executive officer. It has licensed technology from Optimer Pharmaceuticals, a San Diego firm, for use in development of macrolides and ketolides as therapies against macrolide-resistant bacteria.
The latest closing was reported by Private Equity Hub, a publication of Thomson Financial, citing a regulatory filing. Cempra's Web site did not immediately include a news release about the latest funding event.
Durham's Intersouth Partners participated in the B round along with Aisling Capital, Optimer Pharmaceuticals and banker I. Wistar Morris III.
