Cato Joint Venture Creates New CRO

Cato Research Ltd., a global contract research and development organization (CRO) headquartered in Durham, is forming a joint venture company with Neuland Laboratories Ltd., a contract manufacturer of bulk active pharmaceutical ingredients.

The new company, Cato Research Neuland India, Ltd., will be located in Hyderabad, India. Cato BioVentures, the venture capital affiliate of Cato Research, will also collaborate on the joint venture.

"The addition of India into Cato Research's international network increases our ability to conduct multinational clinical trials and provide a wide range of CRO services in the international arena," said Allen Cato, M.D., Ph.D., CEO of Cato Research and principal of Cato BioVentures.

Dr. Cato and Lynda Sutton founded Cato Research in 1988 as a CRO to help pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies implement development strategies. In addition to business development and training, Cato Research will contribute CRO services including clinical studies, data management activities, statistical analysis, and regulatory services to the new joint venture.

Neuland Laboratories, founded in 1984 and based in Hyderabad, is a publicly held manufacturer of pharmaceuticals for a broad range of diseases and therapeutic areas, including respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, infectious diseases and central nervous system disorders.
