First Marine Biotechnology Symposium to be Held in Wrightsville Beach
The first North Carolina Marine Biotechnology Symposium will bring marine science researchers from around the world to discuss the use of ocean resources combined with biotechnology to create new economic development opportunities in the state.

South Carolina-based East Coast Ethanol has announced plans to build a $212 million ethanol plant in Northampton County, near the town of Seaboard.
Corporate and civic leaders gathered to dedicate Merck's new $750 million vaccine manufacturing plant in Durham.
The Durham company has completed its 26-patient enrollment in a clinical study of its REG1 anticoagulant system.The study is to see if it can replace standard heparin therapy during coronary balloon angioplasty and during insertion of stents into coronary arteries.
