Accelerating Science and Business Together
The Hamner Accelerator for Translational Bioscience is one of three integrated units at The Hamner Institutes of Health Sciences in Research Triangle Park. It takes the model of business incubators to the next level by adding a strong scientific, collaborative approach.
A goal of the program is to accelerate the science behind new biotechnology companies in addition to business development. The start-ups in the program work with scientists from The Hamner Institutes and local universities, as well as other companies within the accelerator.
Two new companies, BioMedomics and b3bio, are currently in the program. At the accelerator’s facility, they benefit from on-site, fully equipped and staffed research support units established within a “good laboratory practices” validation framework.
Recently the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill announced an agreement with The Hamner to collaborate on basic, transitional research. This agreement opens opportunities for accelerator start-ups to work with the university’s scientific and business academics.
In this week's In Focus, read more about the program designed to accelerate not just a company, but the science behind it.
