In Focus

In Search of: Treasures of the Deep Clams

North Carolina boasts a number of assets from the mountains to the sea, but it is in the sea that some researchers are looking for commercial products and new health treatments.

Many institutions along North Carolina's coast, and outposts of those located inland, have banded together in a partnership to find those potential products, develop them, and bring them to market. That effort just received a $100,000 planning grant from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center toward creating a Center of Innovation in marine biotechnology.

Read more about the potential that biotechnology holds for marine science, and how the two together can bring great benefits to North Carolina.
