Dr. Otto Zhou Biography

Otto Zhou PhotoOtto Zhou is the Lyle Jones Distinguished Professor of Materials Sciences and Physics at UNC-Chapel Hill and a member of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Carolina Center for Cancer Nanotechnology Excellence.

Dr. Zhou’s current research focuses on the applications of the carbon nanotube field emission technology for x-ray imaging, radiotherapy and information display. He received his PhD degree in Materials Science from the University of Pennsylvania and worked at the Bell Labs (Murray Hill) and NEC prior to joining the faculty at UNC. 

His research in nanotechnology has led to more than 40 issued and pending U.S. Patents and over 100 scientific publications.

Dr. Zhou is the co-founder and Chairman of Xintek, a Research Triangle Park based start-up that commercializes the nanotube x-ray and display devices.
