  • NC IDEA Spring Grant - provides small grants to high-tech startup companies to support business activities that validate potential markets, reduce risk of early failure, and advance projects to the point of self-sustainability at which time they are suitable for private equity investment. NCIDEA is interested in funding the following industries: Information Technology, Medical Diagnostics and Devices, Material Sciences or Green Technologies (cannot be pharmaceutical or biotechnology focused). Deadline: March 19, 2010.
  • Shared Instrumentation Grant Program - to make available to institutions expensive research instruments that can only be justified on a shared-use basis and for which meritorious NIH research projects in basic, translational or clinical areas are described. The SIG program provides funds to purchase or upgrade to a single item of expensive, specialized, commercially available instrumentation or an integrated instrument system.  Deadline: March 23, 2010.
  • Scientific Cooperation Exchange Program - supports international exchanges that promote agricultural development and economic growth, and mitigate animal and plant health issues that impede trade. This unique program offers excellent opportunities for U.S. teams of up to 5 members to initiate linkages with potential long-term collaborators at Chinese institutions throughout the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Under a special USDA Scientific Technological Exchange Agreement with the PRC, the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture specifically tailors two-week visits to China to meet the scientific objectives of each team. U.S. teams are responsible only for their international airfare to and from China. Deadline: March 26, 2010.
  • NIST Construction Grant Program - to provide funds for research science (fields related to measurement science, oceanography, atmospheric research or telecommunications) buildings through the construction of new buildings or expansion of existing buildings. “Research science building” means a building or facility whose purpose is for the conduct of scientific research, including laboratories, test facilities, measurement facilities, research computing facilities, and observatories. U.S. institutions of higher education and non-profit organizations are eligible to apply. Deadline: March 29, 2010 (LOI required); April 26, 2010.
  • Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program - provides resources to support the development of educational outreach curricula, workshops, educational teams, training, and technical assistance programs to assist beginning farmers and ranchers in the US and its territories with entering, establishing, building and managing successful farm and ranch enterprises. The primary goal of BFRDP is to enhance food security by providing beginning farmer and rancher producers and their families in the U.S., as appropriate, with the knowledge, skills and tools needed to make informed decisions for their operations, and enhance their sustainability.  Other goals include enhanced sustainability of resources and inputs for biofuel production. Deadline: April 6, 2010.
  • NIH Support for Conferences and Scientific Meetings - support high quality conferences and scientific meetings that are relevant to the scientific mission of the NIH and to the public health. A conference/scientific meeting is defined as a gathering, symposium, seminar, scientific meeting, workshop or any other organized, formal meeting where persons assemble to coordinate, exchange, and disseminate information or to explore or clarify a defined subject, problem, or area of knowledge. Deadline: April 12, 2010; August 12, 2010; December 12, 2010.
  • National Institute of Food and Agriculture New Era Rural Technology Competitive Grants Program Grant - Awards will stimulate and enable community colleges and advanced technological centers located in rural areas (Note: see definitions of these terms in Part VIII, E. of the RFA to ensure eligibility) to provide technology development, applied research, and/or training necessary to produce graduates capable of strengthening the Nation’s technical, scientific and professional workforce in the fields of bioenergy, pulp and paper manufacturing, and agriculture-based renewable energy resources. Deadline: April 14, 2010.
  • FDA Small Scientific Conference Program - supporting high quality conferences/scientific meetings that are relevant to its scientific mission and to the public health. Support of such meetings is contingent on the fiscal and programmatic interests and priorities of individual participating Centers. Deadlines: April 15, 2010; July 15, 2010; October 15, 2011; January 15, 2011; April 15, 2011; and July 15, 2011.
  • Advanced Technological Education - focuses on the education of technicians for the high-technology fields that drive our nation's economy. The program involves partnerships between academic institutions and employers to promote improvement in the education of science and engineering technicians at the undergraduate and secondary school levels. The ATE program supports curriculum development; professional development of college faculty and secondary school teachers; career pathways to two-year colleges from secondary schools and from two-year colleges to four-year institutions; and other activities. Deadline: April 22, 2010 (LOI optional); October 21, 2010.
  • Nanoscience and Nanotechnology in Biology and Medicine (R01) - aimed at enhancing nanoscience and nanotechnology research focused on problems in biology and medicine. Deadline: June 5, 2010; October 5, 2010; January 5, 2011.
  • Bioengineering Research Grants (R01) - to support multi-disciplinary research performed in a single laboratory or by a small number of investigators that applies an integrative, systems approach to develop knowledge and/or methods to prevent, detect, diagnose, or treat disease or to understand health and behavior. Deadline:June 5, 2010; October 5, 2010; January 5, 2011.
  • Nanoscience and Nanotechnology in Biology and Medicine (R21) - aimed at enhancing nanoscience and nanotechnology research focused on problems in biology and medicine. Deadline: June 16, 2010; October 16, 2010.
  • Exploratory/Developmental Bioengineering Research Grants (R21) - to encourage innovation and high risk/impact bioengineering research in new areas. Deadline: June 16, 2010; October 16, 2010.
  • Informal Science Education - invests in projects that advance understanding of informal STEM learning, that develop and implement innovative strategies and resources for informal STEM education, and that build the national professional capacity for research, development and practice in the field. Deadline: Preliminary Proposals June 24, 2010; Full Proposal November 18, 2010.
  • NC Biotechnology Center Grantsmanship Training Grant - one-time funding opportunity that provides financial support for grant writing training activities for faculty and staff of North Carolina colleges and universities and other non-profits who are involved in research or programs related to the life sciences. Deadline: 60 days prior to training activity date.
  • Measurement Science and Engineering Research Grants Programs - following programs are soliciting applications for financial assistance for FY 2010: (1) the Electronics and Electrical Engineering Laboratory Grants Program; (2) the Manufacturing Engineering Laboratory Grants Program; (3) the Chemical Science and Technology Laboratory Grants Program; (4) the Physics Laboratory Grants Program; (5) the Materials Science and Engineering Laboratory Grants Program; (6) the Building Research Grants and Cooperative Agreements Program; (7) the Fire Research Grants Program; (8) the Information Technology Laboratory Grants Program; (9) the NIST Center for Neutron Research Grants Program; and (10) Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology Grants Program; and (11) the Technology Services Grants Program. Deadline: Accepted on continuing basis.
