The P2EP Summer Research Symposium highlights one part of the Plant Pathways Elucidation Project – an 11-week summer internship program that provides undergraduate students with an opportunity to gain research experiences in a collaborative, multidisciplinary, cross-institutional environment. The purpose of the internship program is to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Interns are supervised and mentored by NCSU and UNC Charlotte faculty members, scientists from industry partners, and a team of Ph.D. students. Their research focuses on advancing the genomic tools used in breeding crops such as broccoli, blueberry, sweet potato, banana and oats for increased compounds that have a beneficial effect on human health.
