The goal is to use biotechnology for engineering novel hyperactive Sleeping Beauty (SB) transposons with better controlled, site-specific DNA-binding for gene therapy and other genetic applications. The first structural study of SB transposase using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy will provide structural information needed for transposon engineering.
