AgBiotech Signature Programs

NCBiotech's AgBiotech Initiative leads all ag biotech efforts in the state of North Carolina, working with existing and emerging ag biotech businesses, farmers, producers, researchers, investors, educators, legislators and economic developers to create opportunity. We are able to fulfill our mission through various signature programs:

  • Crop Commercialization Center - Project convening partners to conduct research including trait identification, development, grower engagement and market introduction to improve and commercialize vegetable, fruit and feed crops in N.C.

  • AgBio[sphere] - New ag biotech economic development platform identifying N.C. as the complete ecosystem to support industry recruitment. It works to educate prospective ag biotech research and business ventures about our state's assets, establishing a streamlined consulting process to expedite market entry into N.C.

  • Ag Biotech Industry in the Classroom - Annual professional development summer workshop series for N.C.'s K-12 agriculture and science teachers, with activities, lectures and discussions on biotechnology's role in ag.

  • Ag Biotech Entrepreneurial Showcase - Annual event to connect entrepreneurs, investors, tech scouts and others; facilitate partnership and capital deal flow; and inspire researchers to commercialize their most promising results.

  • Ag Biotech Professional Forums - Quarterly event series for industry leaders and professionals to learn about N.C.'s diverse ag biotech resources. Each includes a short program of speakers followed by a networking reception.

  • NC Ag Biotech Summit - Event held every two years to engage the agriculture and biotechnology communities, addressing key topics such as emerging technologies, research innovation, technology commercialization, regulation, policy, public acceptance, agricultural production and ag biotech products.

  • NC Biotech Economic Growth Report - Quarterly report providing an economic growth snapshot of the ag biotech industry in N.C., using January 2010 as a baseline to chart the state's ag biotech company and technology developments.
