Through partnership between the Plant Biology and Crop Science departments, the student will find cotton homologs of the regulatory genes in Arabadopsis, design primers, clone cotton homologs, test gene expression, and assay protein-protein interactions in a yeast system. The premise is that cotton fiber elongation may share common signaling pathways with those controlling tip growth of the cells producing fibers.
