This project will investigate the commercial use of microphotosynthetic cells for
bioremediation. The student will determine the tolerance of such organisms for
metal contaminants common in marginalized environments and the ability of cells
to remove these contaminants from the environment. The student will quantitate
cells growing in the presence of different metal concentrations and measure
uptake with atomic absorption spectroscopy.
