Recommend a COI

Ideas for future Centers of Innovation come from individuals that are aware of a well defined industry sector that benefits from the application of biotechnology and think its growth would be catalyzed  with a focus on commercialization. Contact Mary Beth Thomas, vice president of the Centers of Innovation program to discuss your idea.

COI Process

Successful COIs evolve from a cohesive academic-industry consortium led by strong inter-university and industrial partners. These partners recognize a unique set of strengths that North Carolina has to offer in a specific industry sector.  They also believe that the nascent sector can be catalyzed by the focused and collaborative efforts of a COI.

Once a consortium has formed, it must be recognized by the Biotechnology Center as inclusive and cohesive, intent on building a statewide initiative. This can lead to an invitation for the consortium to submit a Phase I proposal. Ongoing engagement of Biotechnology Center staff is required.

Details on the resulting application process, on the funding of each phase, and other specifics are spelled out in our COI brochure.
